New PhD thesis on head injuries in world class alpine skiers, snowboarders and freestyle skiers
Intoduction
Monday, April 16, PhD-student Sophie Steenstrup will defend her PhD-thesis "Head injuries in FIS World Cup alpine skiers, snowboarders and freestyle skiers - Epidemiology and video analyses of head impact injury mechanisms" at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences.
Sophie has a BSc in physiotherapy from Fontys University, Eindhoven, Netherlands (2003), and completed a MSc in sports physiotherapy at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences in 2011. She has a varied background as a physiotherapist, including working in a private practice and following up sports teams.
The project´s main purposes have been the following:
1. Monitor the prevalence of head injuries in FIS World Cup alpine athletes, snowboarders and freestyle skiers
2. Analyse mechanisms and causes for head injuries among these athletes
Professor Roald Bahr and Professor Tron Krosshaug served as supervisors for Sophie.
